Price and total discrepancies: VAT Act and Ordinance N-18

Why do prices and amounts differ in documents issued through the program?
Every software product must comply with the requirements of certain laws. Retail software such as I-CASH must comply with Ordinance N-18 and the VAT Act. Both can be found online on official government websites. In this article, we will provide examples rather than quote the legislation and try to explain why I-Cash 'calculates' differently.

For this purpose, we have prepared one item:

Please look at the two screenshots. We are selling the same item at the same price and quantity. Image 1 shows a POS sale with Goods receipt selected as the document; the second shows a web sale with Invoice selected as the sales document.

Why does this discrepancy occur?

In cases where we have:
  1. A tax invoice with a VAT column calculated from the TOTAL sale value
  2. Fiscal receipt where VAT is calculated from the UNIT price of the goods
Under the VAT Act, all taxable amounts (excluding VAT) are added together and VAT is then charged on the total, whereas the cash register works only with final prices (including VAT). If an invoice document is not selected, the sale will be calculated under Ordinance N-18 and processed through the cash register with the names, quantities and prices of the sold items. If an invoice document is selected, it will be calculated under the VAT Act and the cash receipt will show only the total amount—see the two cash receipts above.

If prices are not exact, as in the example, the cash register rounds to two decimal places. Another important condition is that the cash register cannot process a price below BGN 0.01.

To avoid such discrepancies, we advise customers to start every web sale by selecting Invoice as the document type.
